00About

A dedicated institute for an emerging scientific field.

EIOSHS is being established as an independent international non profit research institute focused on oral and systemic health in space environments.

01Vision

Human space exploration is entering a new era. Long duration missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond create new medical and scientific challenges.

EIOSHS envisions oral and systemic health as integral components of crew wellbeing during long duration missions, and as a source of translational insight for medicine and dentistry on Earth.

02Mission

The mission of EIOSHS is to promote, develop and support scientific research on oral and systemic health in space environments while creating an international collaborative network capable of addressing future challenges in human space exploration.

The institute supports innovative research, international collaboration, future funding opportunities and the development of future generations of researchers.

03Why an independent non profit institute

An independent non profit structure provides a dedicated platform for research and education, greater flexibility for international collaboration, access to future funding opportunities and a sustainable foundation capable of growing beyond any individual founder.

It positions EIOSHS as a neutral platform able to bring together universities, hospitals, research groups, foundations and partners across disciplines and countries.

04Governance

EIOSHS is currently in formation. Its governance model is designed to ensure scientific integrity, transparency and long term institutional stability.

The governance structure will include three founding members, statutory bodies and a Scientific Advisory Board responsible for overseeing scientific direction. Members and board composition will be communicated once the institute is formally constituted.

05Legal form

EIOSHS is currently in formation as a Belgian non-profit organization (vzw / asbl).

This independent legal form provides a neutral, sustainable structure able to host international research collaboration and to access European and international funding programs once the formation procedure is completed.

06Long term vision

Within the next five to ten years EIOSHS aims to become a recognised European reference center for oral and systemic health in space, contributing to international research consortia, education and translational benefit for healthcare on Earth.
