00 Roadmap

From foundation to flagship programs.

EIOSHS is being built in deliberate stages. The roadmap below describes the intended trajectory of the institute in formation. It is a working plan, not a commitment, and will evolve as the scientific network grows.

Phase 012025 / 2026

Foundation

Establish EIOSHS as a recognised non profit research institute and build the core scientific network.

  • /Legal establishment in Belgium and governance framework.
  • /Institutional identity, scientific mission and communication.
  • /Formation of an international scientific advisory network.
Phase 022026 / 2027

Pilot science

Generate first preliminary scientific data on oral and systemic health in extreme environments.

  • /Pilot studies on oral microbiome, stress and biomarkers.
  • /Exploration of saliva based monitoring concepts.
  • /Initial peer reviewed publications and proof of concept work.
Phase 032027 / 2028

Consortium

Transform the network into a recognised international research consortium.

  • /Formal collaboration agreements with academic partners.
  • /First EIOSHS symposium on oral and systemic health in space.
  • /Consensus and position papers framing the field.
Phase 042028 / 2029

Flagship programs

Launch large scale multidisciplinary research programs at the intersection of oral, systemic and space health.

  • /Integrated research on the oral, microbiome, brain and gut axis.
  • /Salivary biosensor and rapid diagnostics initiative.
  • /Planetary oral health research for future lunar and Martian missions.
2030 +

Long term horizon

By 2030 EIOSHS aims to operate as an international reference network for oral and systemic health, microbiome research, salivary biomarkers, space medicine and planetary health, connecting researchers, institutions and missions across Europe and beyond.

This roadmap describes intended directions of the institute in formation. It is a working plan and may evolve. Nothing on this page represents confirmed partnerships, funding or completed work.
